Frugal Spotlight: Zara

My first time going into a Zara store or hearing about one was about 4 years ago in Miami, FL right off the South Beach strip. It was very unique looking not like a Forever 21 or American Apparel but it felt more like a boutique and the prices weren't as high as I expected. Zara is one of the largest international fashion companies.

Frugal Finds: Forever 21

Hey Frugs! This weekend I was surprised to see such a great deal on dress that could usually run you about 50 bucks. Forever 21 carries a dress that is identical to the American Apparel Tricot Nylon Scoop Back Tank  and Nylon Tricot Double U-Neck 3/4 Sleeve Dress. Of course the AA version comes in ten different colors but the color choices of red, blue and black plus the wonderful price are reason enough to make that purchase!

Below are the American Apparel versions:

The Look for Less: Chanel

Chicks in kicks! Alot of ladies have traded in theirs heels for a cool pair of kicks. The Chanel Camellia sneakers have been highly coveted by many ladies and even some men. But $2000 for some tennis shoes...idk about all that. I found a similar pair at Bakers for a fraction of the price. Check it out below!

What's the TREND? Jerseys

Have you caught on to the jersey/number top trend yet? If not then its time to catch up! Unbranded, non team related and miscellaneous numbered clothing items are appearing just about everywhere. I've purchased a few myself from Forever21, T.J. Maxx and online at a Vintage Boutique. If you weren't apart of a sports team in school it definitely gives you a sense of being El Captaine in addition to making you look and feel athletic in a trendy sort of way.

We all know that style and trends travel along a never-ending cycle, disappearing and reappearing every once in a while. I remember when jerseys were really popular around 2005-2006. NBA jersey dresses for females and oversized jerseys for male. Looking back on that trend, I'd say we looked a little foolish. But I'm definitely feeling Jersey inspired clothing this go round.

Below are a few places where you can purchase them:

Frugal Spotlight: Target

I was introduced to Target when I was about 8 years old. It was my favorite store because they sold Spice Girl apparel. As I grew older Target was my go to spot to buy quality clothing at a middle class price. Yes, some items from Target can get pretty pricey but once it hits the sale rack its dirt cheap!

The Look for Less: Gucci

Gucci this, Gucci that, Gucci everything. Last week I did the Look for Less on a Tony Bianco shoe and while browsing on the website I came across a Gucci look a like. Check it out below!

Frugal Shopaholic Tips & Tricks: Back to School Edition

This post is dedicated to our college student frugs. There is an art to stretching a dollar in college. When I was in school I would get $500 from my family scholarship fund each semester to buy books. That book money ended up being for books, food, gas and other miscellaneous things and I still had money leftover. I'm going to share a few tricks with you to help you stretch those dollars.

1. Shop online for books

  • Consider buying the international edition. These books are usually wayyyy cheaper than textbooks published in the US. The content is the same as the U.S. version, but it may have differences such as the book cover, ISBN, page numbers, or region code.
  • Books in the campus bookstore are always overpriced. SlugBooks.com compares prices between your college bookstore and online options like Amazon/eBay/Chegg/etc. so you can be sure you're getting the best deal on your textbooks.
2. Use your student ID.
  • ALWAYS ask for a student discount wherever you go. Most places do not publicly advertise their student discount but they have them. I graduated 2 years ago and I still use my college ID for discounts (thank you UNCG for not having expiration dates on our IDs). Here is a list of 81 Student Discounts
3. Sign up for student reward programs.
  • Amazon Student is a student loyalty program that gives college students exclusive discounts. You get Amazon Prime benefits for free the first six months after that its $39/year. The perks include FREE Two-Day Shipping, $10 credit for referring friends, unlimited instant streaming of movies & TV show, and you can borrow FREE Kindle books.
